Learn Something New Every Day: John McCain Invented the BlackBerry and Wi-Fi Too

John McCain makes the Wi-Fi claims during a Q&A with Science Debate 2008–he said:

Under my guiding hand, Congress developed a wireless spectrum policy that spurred the rapid rise of mobile phones and Wi-Fi technology that enables Americans to surf the web while sitting at a coffee shop, airport lounge, or public park.

But wait, there’s more. Just today one of his economic advisers would want us to believe that McCain invented the Blackberry, a product made by Canadian company, RIM. From Jonathan Martin at Politico.com:

Asked what work John McCain did as chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee that helped him understand the financial markets, the candidate’s top economic adviser wielded visual evidence: his BlackBerry.

“He did this,” Douglas Holtz-Eakin told reporters this morning, holding up his BlackBerry. “Telecommunications of the United States is a premier innovation in the past 15 years, comes right through the Commerce Committee. So you’re looking at the miracle John McCain helped create and that’s what he did.”

I’m amazed at how technologically evolved McCain is for someone who is just now learning how to use a computer (or can’t because of his POW wounds depending on who you believe).
